Youth Symphony Auditions in Kansas City

Auditioning for Youth Symphony
of Kansas City

Current Members

An entrance audition is not required for musicians currently enrolled in the 2024/25 YSKC Academic Year.  Current musicians, except graduating seniors, are expected to complete the Returning Musician Intent Form in order to reserve or release their seat in the program for 2025/26.

New this year, students who want to be considered for Symphony Orchestra or considered for advancement from their current ensemble will complete an “internal audition” – making things a little less involved for returning students!

Not all students must complete an internal audition. See below:

No Internal Audition Necessary

• Musicians in Classical, Philharmonic and Debut Orchestras who want to remain in their 2024/25 (current) ensemble for 2025/26
• Musicians in Philharmonic who are currently in 10th grade (these students will be placed in Classical Orchestra)

Required to Complete an Internal Audition

• Any musician currently in Symphony Orchestra
• Any musician who wants to be considered for Classical Orchestra AND is currently in Philharmonic Orchestra (in grade 9 or younger)
• Any musician who wants to be considered for advancement to the next-most advanced ensemble AND is currently in Debut OR Classical Orchestra (in any grade)

Wait. Are you not currently in YSKC?

Let’s get you to the right page

Important Note:

A $25 non-refundable reservation fee is required for all returning musicians and is due at the time of submission. The reservation fee takes the place of the entrance audition fee ($50 for new musicians).

• Due date for those submitting an internal audition for Symphony Orchestra: May 31, 2025
• All other reservation submissions/internal auditions due: April 30, 2025

Those submitting an internal audition must include their audition video link on the Returning Musician Intent Form.

Musicians who submit an internal audition and are not selected for a more advanced ensemble will retain a seat in their current (2024/25) orchestra.
