Auditioning for Youth Symphony
of Kansas City
Auditions for the upcoming YSKC academic year (2024/25) closed on May 17th, 2024. However, if you are still interested in being considered, please submit an inquiry form and we will be in touch.
After registering an inquiry, applicants can access the admissions portal, where they are asked to submit a recording of the required audition materials (typically a spoken personal statement describing why the candidate wishes to join YSKC, an age-appropriate orchestral excerpt and a 2-3 minute solo of the candidate’s choosing).
Upon acceptance, students will be asked to complete a short placement test to be assigned a position in a YSKC orchestra that best meets their immediate educational needs. There are several similar check-ins and technical tests throughout the academic year to ensure that each student is thriving in the best educational environment for them. Students may continue in or can occasionally be moved to orchestras that more closely match their pace of comfort and development during the academic year. The Artistic Director collaborates with our conductors to engage students and parents, ensuring that the Youth Symphony of Kansas City delivers a personalized, expert-driven education to all musicians.

Auditions at-a-Glance
Eligibility
Students in grades 4-12 in the 2024-2025 school year are eligible for one of YSKC’s six ensembles.
Application Fees
A $50 audition fee is due at the time of registration.
Enrollment
Following acceptance, students will be provided instructions for completing and submitting a placement test.
Update: Placement tests are due by July 28th. Instructions and placement materials will be sent to enrolled students by June 13th.

YSKC Artistic Staff
The YSKC Artistic Staff includes conductors for all of our large ensembles – Steven D. Davis, Raffaele Cipriano, Michelle Davis, Amanda Kremer and Anna Cook – as well as our world-renowned chamber coaches and our Educators-in-Residence, the Opus 76 Quartet.
