Affording YSKC: Access to Excellence

At the Youth Symphony of Kansas City, we believe that musical excellence should be accessible to every talented young musician—regardless of financial circumstance. That’s why we offer need-based tuition support to qualifying families each season. If your child is ready to grow with us, we’ll work with you to make it possible.

What We Offer

  • Need-based tuition assistance for families with financial hardship
  • Fee waivers for auditions, registration, and tour costs (when applicable)
  • A confidential, respectful process—you’ll be treated with dignity every step of the way

Who Can Apply

Families with demonstrated financial need are encouraged to apply. While we don’t publish a specific income cutoff, our aid committee considers factors such as:

  • Household income and size
  • Special circumstances (e.g. job loss, medical expenses)
  • Sibling enrollment in tuition-based activities

Even if you think you might not qualify, we encourage you to apply. Many families are surprised to learn they are eligible.

How to Apply

1. Check the box on your audition form if you’re interested in tuition support.

2. After your child is accepted, you’ll receive a link to complete a short tuition support application.

3. Tuition support decisions are made promptly and confidentially.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will applying for tuition support affect my child’s audition?

No. Auditions are blind and evaluated on artistic merit alone.

Do returning students need to reapply each year?

Yes, but the renewal process is quick and simplified for past recipients.

Is financial aid first-come, first-served?

We encourage early applications, but we work to meet every qualified need throughout the registration window.
