Youth Classical Symphony Classes in Kansas City

Our Classical Orchestra is an advanced full orchestra in our Senior School.

Prof. Raffaele Cipriano, Conductor

The Classical Orchestra performs standard orchestral repertoire from the Classical period onwards, as well as 18th & 19th Century opera.

In addition to its standard performance calendar, Classical Orchestra has performed at the Martin Luther King, Jr. State Celebration Commission’s annual concert, for the Kansas City Chinese-American Association Chinese New Year Celebration, and other special performance opportunities including exchange concerts with other regional youth orchestra programs. Recent performances at the Kansas City Classic Festival of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony and excerpts from Bizet’s “Carmen” at the Kauffman Center brought several standing ovations.

Musicians accepted into Symphony and Classical Orchestra are eligible to also participate in YSKC’s Touring Orchestra.

Historical Touring Orchestra highlights include performances across Ireland in 2016 and in 2018 in Austria as a part of Youth Symphony of Kansas City’s 60th Anniversary Season. In 2023, the Orchestra performed Respighi’s “Pines of Rome” and Stolzel’s “City Beautiful” at Carnegie Hall in New York.
